Summer indoor pool activities in full swing

As summer winds down, the swimming is amping up at the Churchill County Pool.

A youth swim camp for children will be provided by Churchill County High School’s best swimmers. CCHS athletes will teach swimmers the fundamentals of the four competitive swimming strokes, flip turns and diving off the starting blocks.

The camp runs Monday through Aug. 16 from 9:30 a.m.-11:30a.m. and costs $30. On Aug. 16, campers will compete in a swim meet.

Water In Motion, the new wave in aqua exercise, is being offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at noon, and Saturdays at 11:30 a.m during the summer. Passes and fees are interchangeable with wave classes. Classes are $5 for drop-in or class passes are $35 for eight or $50 for 12.

Wave classes help individuals maintain a strong body and reach fitness goals using the benefits of water. These water exercise classes improve the body’s endurance, strength, flexibility and coordination using the therapeutic benefits of water.

Rising Wave sessions run at 6 a.m., deep water on Monday and Wednesday, with shallow water on Tuesday and Thursday.

Active Wave classes are at 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., with shallow water on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Deep wave sessions run at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Stroke Performance Training during lap swim for teens and adults is on Tuesday and Thursday nights, from 6-7 p.m.. It is an opportunity to learn how to swim better, increase endurance, pump up an existing workout or prepare for a competitive event. Workouts are provided and a swim coach is available on-site for lap swim prices.

The Take Away the Aches class is on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:45 a.m. These classes increase flexibility, strength and coordination with low impact exercise to improve daily living.

This class is excellent for people just beginning an exercise program or people dealing with limited motion, diabetes and arthritis. All ability levels and non-swimmers are welcome. Classes are $3 for drop-in or $22 for eight classes.

Open Swim is Monday through Friday from 1:15-3:15p.m. and 7:15-9:15p.m. and Saturdays from noon-3 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9:30 p.m.

Each Open Swim day has a special theme with activities where individuals can win free swim passes. The themes are Pirate Mondays, Swim or Dye Tuesdays, Water Gun Wednesdays, Superhero Thursdays, Olympic Fridays and Sea Shell Saturdays.
