Midnight at the Oasis

The city of Fallon’s free-in-the-park concert with Maria Muldaur and the Campbell Brothers is tomorrow evening.

In conjunction with this there will also be chance to meet and talk with the performers in an informal conversation at the Oats Park Art Center.

The conversation will be held in the Center’s Art Bar at 3 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. on the Centennial Stage in Oats Park. For more information on the talk and performance you can call Churchill Arts at 775-423-1440.

The Art Center’s galleries and art bar will also be open following the performance. It will be a good chance to preview the two new exhibitions that are now on view.

The new shows are “Don’t Tear My Playhouse Down,” works by Las Vegas artist, Chris Bauder and “Chimera and Chicanery” by Reno artist Michael Sarich.

Sarich teaches in the Art Department of the University of Nevada, Reno and holds an MFA in drawing painting and sculpture from the University of Oklahoma.

He has an extensive exhibition record including a retrospective at the Nevada Museum of Art in 2007 as well as shows of his work at the Bemis Foundation in Omaha, the Kohler Art Center in Wisconsin, and the Missoula Museum of Art, Paris Gibson Square and Montana State University in Montana.

His work is in many private and public collections including the Jun Kaneko Museum in Omaha, the University of Nevada Las Vegas, the Illinois State Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago.

Chris Bauder has BFA from the UNR and an MFA from then University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He is a recent recipient of a visual arts fellowship from the Nevada Arts Council and has shown his work extensively in southern Nevada.

The exhibitions will be on view at all Churchill Arts Council events through Nov. 23 and Bauder, and Sarich will give a talk on their works on Sept. 7 at 4 p.m., followed by a reception for the artists from 5 to 7 p.m. Both talk and reception are free and open to the public.
