A Utah man who had been reported missing since the end of July was found deceased near his abandoned vehicle.

Churchill County Sheriff Ben Trotter said Dee Ray Humphries, 83, of Millard County, Utah, was last sighted in the Delta area on July 28 or July 29, but he was officially reported as missing by Utah officials on July 31. They suspected he was driving to Stockton, Calif., in a red Toyota Corolla.

The CCSO received a report on Friday morning that a suspicious vehicle registered to Humphries had been discovered between U.S. Highway 50 and Eastgate on State Route 722, about 50 miles east of Fallon. The report also indicated the driver’s door was open and cobwebs surrounded it.

The CCSO reported the Toyota was still in drive, it had run out of gas and been at the location for some time and the emergency flashers had been activated. Evidence also pointed to the driver leaving the vehicle.

Trotter said Churchill County Search and Rescue responded, and a ground and aircraft search was conducted on Friday and Saturday. Humphries’ body was located a short distance from the vehicle early Saturday morning. According to Trotter, the CCSO confirmed Humphries’ identity at the scene and notified the Millard County Sheriff’s Office and family. Trotter said there is no evidence of foul play.

Humphries, according to the missing person bulletin, suffered from dementia.
