Kipling leads Tigersharks at Douglas meet

Dagen Kipling of the Carson Tigersharks enjoyed a huge meet at the High County League Championships in Minden recently.

Kipling, 15, was the overall point winner for his age group, and he also set meet records for the 50 free, 100 breast, 200 breast, 200 IM and 400 IM.

Kaley Branco, 14, was third in the 1000 free and 200 back, and fourth in the 500 free and 100 back. She was 12th in the 100 free and 13th in the 200 free. Brett Kolb, 13, won the 1000 free, was second in the 1650 free, fourth in the 200 back and 500 free, sixth in the 100 back, 10th in the 400 IM, 12th in the 200 free and 13th in the 200 IM. A.J. Gutierrez, 12, won the 200 free and 200 back, was third in the 200 M and 100 breast and fourth in the 100 back and 100 free. Abby Pittman, 17, was second in the 500 free, fourth in the 200 breast, sixth in the 400 IM, seventh in the 200 free, eighth in the 100 breast and 200 IM, 14th in the 100 fly and 17th in the 100 back.

Leandra Blake, Breanne Burns, Reece Canfield, Mikaela Christenson, Maggie Jessee, Ashley Meyer, Jarrod Meyer, Morgan Nelson, Hannah Presley, Cristina Saenz, Jay Session and Daniel Willis were top-8 in their respective age groups.

Addy Panzram and Linda Petrini attended the U.S. Masters Long Courser Championships in Mission Viejo, Calif., recently.

Panzram achieved a Masters All-American status by winning the 200 back in her age group. She was second in the 50 fly and third in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 IM. Petrini was second in the 800 free, third in the 400 free, fifth in the 50 free and 200 IM, and sixth in the 50 breast.

Daniel records two aces on consecutive days

George Daniel recorded holes-in-one on back-to-back days at Thunder Canyon Golf and Country Club recently.

On Aug. 17, Daniel aced the par-3 6th, and then came back the next day and aced the par-3 17th.

Sunday special set for Empire Ranch

Empire Ranch is charging $30 per round, including cart, every Sunday. Golfers will also get a $5 coupon for the restaurant or beverage cart.

Fred Coons shot a net 58 to win the recent stroke play event for the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club on Aug. 14. Gene Gaston was second in A flight with a 62, while John Masiello and Bill Milligan tied for third with 63s. Phil Polaske won the B flight with a 62, while Bill Hetherton, Mark Wilson and Ray McPartlin tied for second with 63s. Cleve Dalen won C flight with a 58, four strokes better than Dick Brownfield and five better than Art Skipworth.

Gene Gaston and Henry Teague combined for a 47 to win Empire’s two-man better ball format on Aug. 11 at Incline Village’s Mountain course. Paul Weller and Neil Dettore won Flight B with a 47.

Schreiber wins event at Carson Valley

Jeff Schreiber shot a net 68 to win Flight A stroke play event at the Carson Valley Men’s Club recent tourney on Aug. 18. Charles Poe was second with a 71, while Roger Hala was third with a 73. Gary Schreiber won Flight B with a 68, four shots better than Augie Martinez and six shots better than Chuck Householder. Paul Finan won Flight C with a 66, four strokes better than John Pearson and John Carey.

The CVGC has a couples league on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $30 per player for nine holes of golf, cart and dinner. Call 265-3181 for more information.

Payette foursome wins tourney at Silver Oak

Vern Payette, Tom Rackerby, John Scoville and Danny Jones combined for a 113 to win the Silver Oak Cha-Cha-Cha tourney on Aug. 13.

Martin Johnson, Dick Green, Buzz Wagner and Dennis Small were second at 120, while the teams of Tom Keating, Wilbur Keating, James Reading and Roger Cartwright, and Gary Yoakum, Lee Gilmore, Glenn Stegeman and Tom Petralia tied for third at 121.

Three aces recorded at Eagle Valley

Eagle Valley has been a haven for holes-in-one this month as three golfers recorded aces in a span of 11 days. Two of the aces were on the East course and one came on the West course.

On Aug. 3, Sparks’ Dan Brooks and Reno’s Fran Beall recorded aces. Brooks’ ace came on the par-3 17th on the East course. He used a 6-iron from the blue tees. The ball bounced one time before landing in the cup. Beall used a 9-iron to ace the par-3 7th on the West course. The shot hit 2 feet from the hole and went in.

On Aug. 14, Fred Naugle used a driver to ace the par-3 8th hole on the East course.

It was the first ace for all three golfers.
