Rep. Amodei wins seat on House money committee

Rep. Mark Amodei, R-Nev., has won a seat on the powerful House Appropriations Committee.

The committee is in charge of deciding how federal money is appropriated — spent — through the budget. The power over taxation remains with its counterpart, the Ways and Means Committee.

Amodei said Nevada has not had a seat on Appropriations since Barbara Vucanovich, Nevada’s first female member of the House, retired nearly 20 years ago.

“I look forward to being a strong voice on western issues while continuing a strong oversight commitment over all executive branch operations including the Department of the Interior and Veterans Affairs,” he said.

Committee Chairman Hal Rogers said the committee’s members “have a great responsibility to properly fund the federal government and support the well-bring of the nation.”

Amodei joins two other members in seats on the committee: Rep. Martha Roby of Alabama and Chris Stewart of Utah, both Republicans.
