Johnny “Moon Man” Powell passed away December 9, 2013 in Reno, Nevada. He was 50 years of age, and was a life long resident of the Walker River Paiute Tribe, Schurz, Nevada. He was born on August 9, 1963 to Pauline Benjamin Powell, in Schurz, Nevada. He grew up in Schurz and attended the Schurz Elementary School and graduated from there. After graduating from

Elementary school he went on to attend Mineral County High School in Hawthorne, Nevada then transferred to Stewart Indian School in Carson City, Nevada. Johnny is survived by two sons: Edward Shaw (Reno,NV) John Fernando (Carson city, NV), granddaughter Lealoufi Leung-Wai (Carson City, NV.) Daughters: Taylor Moore and Sidney Powell(both of Nixon, NV.) Kayla Powell (Wadsworth, NV)-sisters: Charlene Powell, Lillian Bencoma, Darla Woods (Schurz, NV) Wana Bencoma (Reno, NV.)-Brothers: Wayne Powell (Schurz, NV) Nieces: Kimmi Sides, Emma Powell, lashelle Birchum-Nephews: Troy, Jim, Eric Dixon, Terrance Shaw, Lawrence Berish, Charles “Chucky” Birchum, Johnny was preceeded in death by his mother Pauline Powell and his older brother Gerard Powell.Graveside services in Schurz, NV December 22nd at 11am
