Holiday dinners, Christmas church services and closures

With Christmas only five days away, some organizations and numerous local churches have made special plans to celebrate Christmas.

Both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars serve holiday meals. The VFW will have their annual Christmas dinner on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the VFW dining room at 405 S. Maine St.

On Christmas Day, the American Legion, 90 N Ada St., will be serving a Christmas dinner starting at 11 a.m. Sailors and other volunteers will be delivering dinners as part of the Meals on Wheels program. If anyone would like to volunteer to deliver meals individuals, contact the American Legion at 775-423-3008.

Many of Fallon’s churches have also planned events for the Christmas holiday.

First Southern Baptist, 900 S. Taylor St., has Sunday school at 9:45 a.m., Christmas Cantata at 11 a.m. and a potluck fellowship at noon. No evening activities are slated on Sunday. A Christmas Eve candlelight service will be held at 6 p.m.

Oasis Community Church, 1520 S. Maine St., has a Christmas Cantata – Breath of Heaven on Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 9:45 a.m. A Christmas Eve service will be held at 6 p.m.

The Christian Life Center, 1435 Kaiser St., will have Sunday services at 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. A Christmas Eve Candlelight service will be held at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Epworth United Methodist Church, 280 E. Stillwater Ave., will have Sunday service at 9 a.m., a Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m. and has nothing planned for Christmas day.

Parkside Bible Fellowship, 485 Tedford Lane, will have regular services on Sunday and a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 6 p.m.

St. Patrick’s Church, 850 W. 4th St., will hold Sunday services at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. and Spanish service at 12:30 p.m. Christmas Eve mass for children will be held at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. for adults. A Christmas day mass will be at 11 a.m.

Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 507 Churchill St., will hold regular services on Sunday. A Christmas Eve service, Holy Eucharist and Vigil is at 7 p.m. Christmas day Holy Eucharist will be at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1770 S. Taylor St., will have a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 7 p.m. and has nothing planned for Christmas day.

The Church of Christ, 20 Drumm Lane, will hold regular Sunday service and will hold a regular Wednesday night Bible study at 7 p.m.

Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1191 E. Stillwater Ave., will be having a 9:30 a.m. service on Sunday and a Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m.

Fallon Church of the Nazarene, 1520 Grimes St., will hold regular services on Sunday and a Christmas Eve service from 6-7 p.m.

These are the only churches that responded.


Holiday closures

All federal, state and local government offices will closed on Wednesday. The city does not have garbage pick-up on Christmas Day but the day after.

Naval Air Station Fallon is operating on a holiday schedule.

All K-12 schools and Western Nevada College are closed from Dec. 23 to Jan. 3 with school resuming on Jan. 6.

Financial institutions are closed Wednesday. Check with your financial institution regarding the days they will be closed and reopening.

Lahontan Valley News will be closed Christmas Eve after 3 p.m. and all day on Christmas.
