Brian Sandford joins the Nevada Appeal as editor starting today.“I’m very pleased that our nationwide search has brought Brian Sandford to the Appeal and Carson City,” said Mark Raymond, Appeal publisher. “Brian’s work in two Western state capitals, his newspaper experience and his enthusiasm for community newspapering really impressed us. We’re looking forward to his leadership of our award-winning news team.”Sandford, 37, joins the Appeal after serving as the night city editor for the Olympian, in Olympia, Wash., since 2006, and in a similar capacity, simultaneously, for the Tacoma News Tribune in Tacoma, Wash., since 2010. “Right off the bat, three things that impressed me were the incredible friendliness of its residents, the region’s rich history and beauty, and the quality of the Appeal’s staff,” Sandford said. “I’m excited about working with a group of talented journalists, as well as getting to both know and serve our readers well.”Prior to moving to Washington, Sandford served as assistant news editor for the Statesman Journal, which serves Oregon’s capital city of Salem.Along the way he has been a reporter, a copy editor, a page designer and an editor at earlier career stops including the Quad-City Times in Davenport, Iowa, the Tampa Tribune in Tampa, Fla., the South Tampa News in Tampa and the Carrollwood News also in Tampa.Originally from Ohio, Sandford began his college career at the University of Akron and he earned his degree from the University of South Florida, in Tampa.Sandford can be reached at 775-881-1221 or at bsandford@nevadaappeal.com.
