A 31-year-old Carson City man was killed Monday night in a two-vehicle accident at Highway 395 and Riverview Drive in south Gardnerville, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

At approximately 10:05 p.m., NHP troopers were dispatched to the scene. Preliminary investigation indicates a blue 1995 Ford 4-door sedan, driven by the Carson City resident, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of kin, was pulling out from the driveway of the 7-Eleven store at the intersection. As he attempted to cross the southbound lane to go north, he proceeded into the direct path of a Mercury Mountaineer that was traveling south on the highway. The front of the SUV struck the left side of the Ford causing both vehicles to become disabled on the highway, blocking at least two travel lanes.

The SUV was driven by 36-year-old Jeremy T. Reineman of Fredericksburg, Va., who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. He was not injured in the collision.

The driver of the Ford sedan was taken to Carson Valley Medical Center in Gardnerville, where he died from his injuries while preparing to be transported by helicopter to Reno, according to the NHP.

A female passenger riding in the sedan was taken by Care Flight to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno and treated for her injuries. She was discharged from the hospital early Tuesday.

"Alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in this tragedy," said NHP spokesperson Chuck Allen.

The Nevada Highway Patrol's Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash, and trooper Doug Hildebrand is the lead investigator for the case.
