Members of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 388 are ringing in the New Year by knocking on doors. They are making personal visits to those who helped bring the Traveling Wall Memorial to Mills Park for “Battle Born Days” and the Nevada Day celebrations. “We are going beyond a card or a letter,” said Rick Arnold, Chapter 388 president. “We had such tremendous community support that we want to show our gratitude. We are humbled and extremely grateful as we wanted to make this event a ‘coming home' for Vietnam veterans and because of this support, we were able to do just that.”One of those who received a personal visit was Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell, who is also a Vietnam Veteran and a member of the veteran's group.“Bob is one of the most humble guys I have ever met,” said Carson City Vietnam Veteran Wilhelm J. Hussong Jr. “While there are many people who helped bring the memorial to town, Bob made sure we had what we needed, when we needed it.”Other businesses and individuals who received special thanks include: Carson Nugget Casino, Carson Mall, WestWall Militaria, Reds Old 395 Grill, Alies Flowers, Sign Pro, Julie's Sign Shop, Home Depot, Office Depot, Carson Downtown Business Association, Fast Signs, Flower Bucket, Timbers Saloon, Nevada Division of Forestry, M.J.'s Sports Bar, Mo & Sluggo's Bar and Grill, Old Globe Saloon, Nevada Appeal, The Plaza Hotel and Award Zone.
