All three victims of a two-car head-on crash east of Carson City had to be taken by helicopter to Renown Medical Center on Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened just before noon on Highway 50 just east of Flint Road and west of the V&T overpass. Trooper Chuck Allen of the Nevada Highway Patrol said preliminary details indicate that the silver 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage sedan driven by an adult male was headed west on the highway when his vehicle crossed the center turn lane into the opposing traffic lanes.

His vehicle struck the 2010 Kia Soul head on, seriously injuring both the male driver and his female passenger.

The Mitsubishi driver’s injuries were described as critical.

The wreck blocked traffic on the four-lane highway for nearly 90 minutes while Care Flight airlifted the Mitsubishi driver and the Kia’s female passenger to the hospital. CALSTAR was called in to take the driver of the Kia to Renown.

Allen said NHP’s Major Accident Investigation Team was called to try determine the cause of the crash and the identities of the three victims.

He said anyone who witnessed the wreck or has added information is encouraged to contract Trooper Kris Satterwhite of the investigation team at 775-689-4682 or ksatterwhite@dps.state.nv.us
