CCHS Class of ‘73 reunion

The CCHS Class of 1973 is having its 40-year reunion on July 12-13.

An open-to-all-alumni evening is July 12 at 6 p.m. at Oasis Bowl. On July 13 at 5:30 p.m. class members will tour the Old High School and then gather at the Churchill County Museum. Dinner is at 7.

CCHS Class of ‘03 reunion

The CCHS Class of 2003 10-year reunion is Aug. 2-3. A meet and greet is Aug. 2 at Sandwinds at 7:30 p.m. A family picnic at Oats Park is 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Aug. 3, and the reunion dinner is at the golf course at 6 p.m. for cocktails, 7 p.m. for dinner.

Bloodmobile stop

Skyridge Outdoor Market and Grate Thyme Kitchen will sponsor a blood drive on July 18 from 3:30-7:30 p.m. at 150 E. Main Street (Skyridge Plaza) in Fernley.

GED Boot Camp

The Western Nevada College GED Boot Camp is a four-week free prep class starting July 30. Classes are noon-4 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Registration is July 24-25 at noon on the WNC Fallon Campus in the Pinon Building, Room 204. Both days of registration must be attended to complete necessary paperwork and testing.

Clothing Give-Away

The Fallon Community Day Clothing Give-Away is July 27 from 8 a.m.-noon in the Gym at Venturacci Park. Donations of clothes, shoes, linens, towels, blankets and fabrics are being collected until July 24 at the Churchill County Library.

Volunteers are needed to help set up on July 26 starting at 7 a.m.

Special Olympics fundraiser

A Fraternal Order of Eagles breakfast is Aug. 18 from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. to support Fallon Special Olympics at the Eagles Hall 7977 Reno Hwy.

Community Service is located at 169 E. Center St. Hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.

July 8-12 sale — Blouses and shirts $4 bag sale (you choose them, we fill the bag at the cash register).

A $1,000 Vinita Gedney Nursing Scholarship is available to first- or second-year nursing students who live in Churchill County and attend a college in Nevada. Applications can be picked up at our shop and are due by Aug. 5.

We are celebrating 26 years in which our volunteers have served this community by recycling donations and using the proceeds to help more than 3,000 families with emergency needs and providing 72 scholarships to high school graduates and nursing students. Donations are accepted of clean, resalable items during store hours.

The Stuf ‘n Such Thrift Store, owned and operated by Banner Churchill Community Hospital Auxiliary, is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., 99 S. Nevada St. Donations are accepted. The non-profit organization raises funds to benefit BCCH and other health-related events.

BCCH Auxiliary is celebrating 56 years of being a part of the Churchill County community.

Humboldt Shredders Thrift Store

The Fallon Humboldt Shredders is located at 290 S. Maine St. Hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Thrifty Finds is a nonprofit store supporting Churchill County youth, 920 W. Williams Ave., Ste. 60A. Enter through Louie’s Dollar Plus.

Hours are from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Tuesday-Sunday The store is closed Mondays.

Donations are accepted on the east side of the building during regular business hours.

Out of Egypt

Out of Egypt Thrift and Gift, providing for ongoing needs of food and hunger, is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Fallon Church of the Nazarene, 121 S. Allen Rd.

Donations are welcome during open hours. Please only provide clean and usable items.

MILITARY & VETERANS

American Legion

The American Legion at 90 N. Ada St., Friday night dinners are open to the public. A $5 donation is asked.

On the first Friday each month the Sons of the American Legion has a fish fry. The second Friday is Bubba Burgers and all the fixings. The third Friday dinners are cancelled until further notice. The fourth and fifth Fridays are steak dinners.

Lunch is served 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Street tacos, $1 each or four for $3, are served on Thursdays. Prime rib sandwiches are served the fourth Thursday each month. Breakfast is the second Sunday each month 8:30-10:30 a.m.

Veterans of Foreign Wars

“Omelet in a Bag Breakfast” is the third Saturday each month from 7:30-10 a.m. at the VFW, 405 S. Maine St.

The High Desert Detachment of the Marine Corps League meets the second Saturday each month at noon at the VFW Hall, 405 S. Maine St.

‘Celebrating Us’ art project

Artists, photographers, artisans of all genre are invited to showcase their work in the “Celebrating Us” project, a joint venture of the Churchill County Museum and the county.

The museum currently features the work of Paulie Alles, Louise Evans, Adah Gerjets, Betty Allyn Johnson, Genevieve Luke, Laura Mills, JoAnn Serpa, Betty Sherritt, Sakae Tsuda, Irma Weede, Edna Workman, and the “Fallon Four” (aka Pat Boden, Sally Groth, Wanda McNair and Pat Stevenson). The county administration building is currently featuring Paulie Alles, Barbara Glenn and Daniel Sperl.

Exhibits are on-going and ever-changing.

SUMFUN

Churchill County Parks and Recreation is offering the SUMFUN Summer Day Camp Program through Aug. 23. The camp is open to youth 6 to 12 years of age from 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Each week includes a theme, snacks, games, activities, crafts, field trips and swimming.

Pre-registration for each week is required. A “drop-in” fee of $25 per day is charged, with a one-time registration fee of $15 (on first child only), which includes a SUMFUN T-shirt.

Fallon Youth Club

The Fallon Youth Club free lunch and snack program is available to all youth 18-and-under through Aug. 16.

Fallon Farmers’ Collaborative

The Fallon Farmers’ Collaborative is sponsoring the Market at the Slanted Porch every Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. from June 4-Sept. 17.

The farmers’ market features local farmers, local crafters, artists, musicians and artisan products. Some products included are local organic produce, honey, breads and canned goods.

Volunteers needed

There are many adults living in Fallon who would like to learn to speak, read, write and understand English.

Tutors are needed in Fallon to teach these adults as part of a volunteer service organization operating on a no-cost-to-student basis, teaching one-on-one. Training and instructional materials are provided at no charge. Training at your convenience takes one hour. We will match you with an adult near you who is anxious to learn.

Child support enforcement services are available through the Churchill County District Attorney’s office. The staff may be able to help establish parentage and help obtain a child support order to include medical support. Pick up an application at the Churchill County Child Support Office at 165 N.
