Soroptimist International of Carson City installed its 2013-14 slate of officers at a recent meeting at the home of Marilyn Lewis.

The new officers are president Sue Jones, president-elect Dianne Hilliard, vice president Kira Griffin, treasurer Sherry Griffin-Grundy, assistant treasurer Penny Hastings, recording secretary Maureen Tisinger, corresponding secretary Blanca Ayala and directors Didi Chaney and Marilyn Lewis.

Jones’ theme for this year is a garden party. In keeping with that theme, the 11th annual Chili Cookoff and Family Fund Day will take place Saturday and Sunday at Glen Eagles Restaurant, 3700 N. Carson St.

The cookoff will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. There will be chili, crafters and family-oriented events such as a dunk tank and games for kids.

Community participation in these events supports the Soroptimist mission: improving the lives of women and girls. This year’s Soroptimist project involves breast cancer; it’s funded through the annual Stroke to Help to be held Sept. 29 at Eagle Valley Golf Course.
