Pair arrested in Carson City on forgery charges face additional felony counts

Two women who were arrested Tuesday on forgery and drug counts now face additional felony counts.

Markeisha Orviss, 22, of Pittsburg, Calif., was arrested again at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson City Jail on suspicion of possessing a financial forgery laboratory, burglary and obtaining under false pretenses. Kamesha Cooper, a 24-year-old transient, was arrested at the same time on suspicion of burglary and obtaining under false pretenses.

According to Carson City Sheriff’s Office reports:

The pair initially were arrested Tuesday at Fairview Drive and Idaho Street after allegedly using fraudulent gift cards at Lowe’s nearby.

Orviss consented to a search of the black Infiniti she’d been driving, which yielded numerous prepaid credit cards and gift cards, receipts for several hundred dollars worth of gift cards, and a marijuana blunt in the ashtray. A deputy also found a Vicodin pill in Cooper’s purse; she didn’t have proof of a prescription.

The numbers on many of the credit cards had been altered. Orviss said they’d purchased the cards from an known person in Oakland. Cooper told a detective she’d agreed to come to Carson City and Reno to use the cards.

Orviss was initially arrested on suspicion of felony forgery of a credit card or debit card; possession of a prescription drug without a prescription; possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana; driving on a suspended driver’s license; and reckless driving. With the addition of the new counts, her bail now is $68,900.

Cooper initially was arrested on suspicion of felony forgery of a credit card or debit card and possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana. Her bail now is $65,600.

Both were being held Friday at the jail.
