Fallon athletes ink LOI’s

Nearly a dozen of Churchill County High School’s best athletes were honored on Monday at the Elmo Dericco Gym.

The celebration marked an afternoon to recognize their transition to collegiate athletics. CCHS Athletic Director Brad Daum presented 11 athletes to friends and family who will continue their athletic careers at the next level.

The sports varied from swimming to cross country and the soon-to-be collegiate athletes were presented with a Greenwave cake.

Last year, seven Fallon grads inked national letters of intent to compete in college.

This year’s female crop of signees include Kaysee Archer, who signed to play softball at Western Nevada College in Carson City, Cady Cordes (volleyball, Division III, Western Connecticut State University, Danbury) Rachel Hendrix (rodeo, DI, Southern Utah, Cedar City), Sam Martin (swimming, DII, Western State University, Gunnison, Colo.), Kelsey Reibsamen (volleyball, NAIA, Simpson College, Redding, Calif.) and Julianne Hale (soccer, Highline Community College, Des Moines, Wash.).

The boys’ list includes Tanner Boone (cross country and track, NAIA, University of Great Falls in Montana), Tyson Ernst (football, NAIA, Montana State University-Northern, Havre), Dylan Tedford (football, DIII, Willamette University, Salem, Ore.) and Trevor and Chad Parsons (football, Butte Community College, Oroville, Calif.).

Archer will join former Fallon teammates Cassie Bell and Jenny Rechel on the diamond for Leah Wentworth’s WNC club. Archer, a second baseman, is hitting .362 with seven doubles and 16 RBIs this season. She also has won two straight state titles with the Lady Wave.

Cordes was named first-team all league in volleyball this year. She tallied 96 kills and a 44.7 hitting percentage, 36 aces and 45 blocks this season as an outside hitter/middle blocker.

Hendrix is in the midst of her senior season but qualified for nationals in barrel racing and sixth in the All-Around Cowgirl standings at last year’s National High School Finals Rodeo.

Martin is a four-year letterman for the Lady Wave swim team and is aiming to qualify for her first state meet on Friday and Saturday in Carson City. She is the school record holder in the 100-yard backstroke (1 minute, 4.40 seconds) and 200 individual medley (2:23.98).

Reibsamen, a setter, recorded 191 assists, 20 aces, 10 kills and an 85.2 serving percentage for the Lady Wave. She earned second-team all league honors.

Hale, a striker, earned second-team all league honors after she netted a team-high 15 goals and recorded five assists. As a junior, Hale was named the Lahontan League’s Forward of the Year after she tallied 19 goals.

Boone, meanwhile, has been a consistent threat for the cross country and track programs. He placed third twice at the state meet and took seventh last fall. He also placed eighth in last season’s 1,600 at the state track meet.

Ernst led the Greenwave in rushing with 948 yards on 113 carries and 14 touchdowns. He also tallied 27 tackles as a defensive back and helped lead Fallon to its third consecutive playoff berth.

Tedford led the Wave in receiving yards (596) and hauled in 30 receptions as a wide receiver. He tied for the team lead in TD catches with six and recorded an interception as a defensive back.

Trevor and Chad Parsons provided the beef up front for the Fallon football team. The two paved the way for the running game that racked up 1,802 yards on the ground and 1,562 in the air.

Trevor Parsons was named the Northern Division I-A’s Lineman of the Year, while Chad Parson earned first-team all league honors.
