A vegemite sandwhich is on the menu for Dalton Johnson.

The Fallon senior was nominated to participate in the annual Down Under Bowl in Australia this summer.

Following the footprints of numerous former Greenwave standouts, Johnson said he is thrilled to play in Australia. The trip also marks the first time the Fallon senior will travel abroad.

“I’m excited to go there,” Johnson said. “Most of the people I talked to said it was a blast.

The cost of the trip, however, is expensive so Johnson’s mother, Liz Kimler, is throwing together a double-elimination softball tournament at 8 a.m. on May 18. The 16 and older co-ed event costs $250 per team and will be at the Fallon Softball Fields. The concession stand will be open too.

Johnson, though, may not be in attendance as he is a member of the Fallon baseball team and could be in Las Vegas chasing the program’s second state title in three years.

Despite the possible scheduling conflict, Johnson said he is ready to hit the field. As a senior, Johnson earned first-team all-state honors as an inside linebacker and led the Wave to it third consecutive playoff appearance.

“I’m just ready to play some football,” he said.

As for his future, Johnson said he is in talks with coaches at the University of Idaho as a walk-on. Johnson said some details must be ironed out in the coming weeks before the coaching staff can notify him about an open spot.
