Douglas High School initiated a “stay-put” alert for 25 minutes Thursday morning while officials investigated a report of a man wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a duffel bag near the school.
The man, who had been seen near the Highway 88 roundabout, was wearing a weight vest and walking to a fitness club about a block from the high school.
Principal Marty Swisher said safety procedures were implemented after the school was contacted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
“Following its safety procedures, Douglas High School initiated its stay-put alert and kept students and staff in classrooms while sheriff office’s deputies searched the building,” Swisher said.
The alert was cleared at 9:35 a.m., he said, students and staffers resumed classes for the remainder of the day.
