Elena Murray and Rileigh Ricken proved to be too dominant for the Churchill County High School senior girls flag football team.
The duo ran away and through the juniors for a 38-21 win on Monday at the Edward Arciniega Complex.
Before the seniors started to roll, the juniors jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Kieran LeBlanc took a handoff from quarterback Ali Tedford and bolted 47 yards for the score.
Ricken tied the score with a 5-yard run to open the second quarter. The juniors, though, held strong and answered with another score for a 14-7 lead.
Tedford weaved her way 65 yards for the score, although several seniors were late coming on to the field leaving the sideline in an uproar. Nevertheless, Ricken tied the game at 14 with a 1-yard plunge and Murray put the seniors up for good with a 40-yard jaunt down the right sideline.
Ricken added her third score of the night to open the third quarter and Erin Nelson booted a 23-yard field goal to give the seniors a 31-14 lead. Each team traded scores in the fourth quarter.
Murray, meanwhile, was unstoppable as the current cross country standout used her speed to hit the corner and outrun the juniors’ defense.
The Homecoming festivities continue today at 7 p.m. in the auditorium with the lip sync. On Thursday, the freshmen football team hosts Fernley at 5 p.m. and Friday is highlighted by the first-place Greenwave against the rival Vaqueros at 7 p.m.
