March 23, 1928 - October 14, 2013

Eugene Charlie Stainbrook was born March 23, 1928 at the Methodist Hospital, Mitchell, SD to George and Mary Stainbrook of Alexandria, SD. He passed away Monday, October 14, 2013.

On June 19, 1948 he married Gertrude Muller of Roswell, SD at St. Agatha rectory at Howard, SD. They spent the first 10 years of their life together farming near Milltown, lived in MN a short time, then moved to Mitchell, SD where Eugene worked for Puetz Construction for 20 years. In 1984 Eugene, Gertrude and their youngest son, David, moved to Custer, SD, where he briefly worked at building construction, Custer State Park and the State Corrections Department, retiring in 1993.

In Aug., 2003 Eugene and Gertrude moved to Bridgewater, SD. He enjoyed working on his yard and raising a vegetable garden, visiting and playing with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude (Gen); three sons, Larry (Cheryl) of Carson City; George of Alexandria; David of Fernley; four daughters, Mary Lou Stainbrook of Sioux Falls; Loretta (Alan) Sorensen of Yankton; Bonita (Bill) Carlson of Custer; Theresa (Rex) Laufmann of Emery; 11 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary (Bintliff) Stainbrook and his brother, Jimmie.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Bittner Funeral Chapel, 805 West Havens St, Mitchell, SD.
