Thanks for making jog event a success

On behalf of the Bordewich-Bray Elementary School staff, we would like to give a special thank you to all the students, parents and other friends who recently supported our jog-a-thon. The generosity of our community helps us to support and enhance our children’s education through various enrichment activities throughout the year.

Thanks also to the parents who helped with our event, from counting the money to handing out snacks, taking pictures, monitoring the track, and to Gracie, our school mascot. We would also like to thank Kristen, Sherry, Nick, Clyde and John of the Governor’s Mansion for hosting the luncheon which was prepared by Grandma Hattie’s.

Young at Heart makes donation to Douglas Senior Center

The Young At Heart Senior Citizens Club recently contributed $43,500 to purchase a walk-in freezer and walk-in cooler from Buffo’s Refrigeration for the new Douglas County Senior Center currently being constructed in Gardnerville’s Herbig Park. Due to their large size, these units must be installed while the building is in the construction phase. This donation by Young At Heart is just a part of the club’s continuing effort to help complete and furnish the new senior center. The funds for this payment resulted from many local contributions and fund raising activities by Young At Heart and other Douglas County service organizations.

Support for Northern Nevada Fire Wives humbling

A few months ago, a few women got together looking for a way to help our firefighter family. Little did we know that a sincere desire to help would develop into a full-blown organization. It has been a journey, both personal and as a team. We all have our own stories and motivation, but together we have a goal to help our community.

We held our first fundraiser on Oct. 12, and we were humbled by the contributions of local Northern Nevada businesses and our wonderful community, from anonymous donors who just believe we are doing the right thing, to the people who worked side by side with us. We would like to take this opportunity to thank those who made this happen for us: Warren Engine Company No. 1; Kaia F.I.T. and Tumbleweeds Gymnastics; Carson City Fire Department chiefs, administrators and crew; Northern Nevada Fire Chiefs Association; Steve Frady and Walmart. We also received many donations for our raffle prizes from businesses all around our generous community.

I would like to extend a personal thank you to the ones who make up Northern Nevada Fire Wives. Since the beginning, you have all shown dedication and enthusiasm in wanting to make this a success. Together we have had the opportunity to start helping those who need it, and with that drew motivation to keep going. Thank you, Northern Nevada. We look forward to the next event and are excited to see what the future brings.
