Dayton girls improve to 13-0 in league

Dayton High’s volleyball team knocked off Elko 26-24, 25-18 and 25-15 on Saturday to improve to 13-0 in Division IA play.

The Dust Devils host Sparks on Tuesday and Fallon on Thursday. Both matches start at 6 p.m.

“Elko came out pretty strong,” DHS coach Monica Halverson said. “We were behind by up to seven points during the game. We got the momentum back late in the game and kept it going from there. We did a pretty good job.”

As usual, Madi Foley led the way with 21 kills and 15 digs, while Ashley Vickers added 10 kills and 10 digs. Taryn Schriner contributed 12 digs and three aces. Setter Peach Coons had 33 assists, six digs, two kills anbd three aces. Lettie Lynch finished with five digs and three kills.


Yerington rolls in 3

YERINGTON — Ashley Rife had 23 assists, five kills and eight aces to lead Yerington to a 25-7, 25-10 and 25-8 win over Battle Mountgain Saturday afternoon in a Division III match.

Kassidy Lommori had 12 kills and five digs, while Chloe Dane had eight kills and 10 digs and four blocks. Jazzmin Bryant had seven kills and three digs.

Yerington is 11-0 in league and 20-9 overall.


CROSS COUNTRY

JV girls take 4th at Bella Vista

FOLSOM, Calif. — Alison Greene finished fifth individually to lead Carson High’s JV girls to fourth-place finish at the Bella Vista Invitational at Willow Hill Reservoir.

Greene was timed in 22:30.49. Lauren Weddell was 12th in 23:53, Tiffany DeRosa 15th in 24:29.74, Kara Berggren 26th in 25:29.64 and Kathryn Liemandt in 26:13.83.

The JV boys, led by Ian VanRensselaer and Tony Xie, finished sixth. Van Rensselaer was sixth in 18:24.92 and Xie was seventh in 18:26.52. Konnor VanWorth was 29th in 20:17.55, Kiefer Catron 56th in 21:07.26 and Daniel Yosafat 57th in 21:14.01.

Both varsity squads fielded incomplete teams because of testing and injuries.

Eveline Delgado was 16th in 19:56.50, Cindy Juchtzer 32nd in 20:53.62, Athena Favero 49th in 21:54.24 and Jiavanna Wong-Fotunato 72nd in 22:52.60. Alex Drozdoff missed the race because of sore shins, while Shelby Brown had testing.

Anthony Cacioppo was 27th in 17:29.40, while Tylar Chester was 40th in 18:00.16.

Carson’s JV teams will compete Tuesday at Spanish Springs in the JV Championships, while the varsity teams will be at Rancho San Rafael Thursday for the league meet.

Carson blanks Damonte, 5-0

Jaime Saldana, Alex Cardenas, Alex Hernandez and Danny Manzo scored a goal each to lead Carson to a 5-0 win over Damonte Ranch on Saturday.
