Obituary: William J. LaBadie

William J. LaBadie was born November 26, 1927 in Ottowa, Ohio to parents, Nina and Lawrence LaBadie.

He enlisted in the Army after high school, serving 18 months in Korea, and then attended college at St. Joseph’s in Rennsler, Indiana, graduating with a degree in Education. He went on to work for J.V. Moan Commissary, a food contractor at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas. While working in Las Vegas, he met his wife Shirley and they married on May 10, 1958, in Boulder City, Nevada. Shortly thereafter, they relocated to Texas, where he supervised the dining halls at Perrin AFB and Reese AFB. In 1960, they moved to San Diego, California, where he went to work for the Imperial County Welfare Division. He earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work from San Diego State in 1967, and after graduation, they returned to Nevada when Bill was hired by the State of Nevada Welfare Division. He worked at the Fallon District Office for one year, and then moved to Carson City where he held various positions including Deputy Welfare Director and Carson District Manager until his retirement in 1987.

Bill is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, Michael and his wife, Thonet of Reno; daughters, Marilyn of Reno and Michelle Younker of Brownstown, Illinois; and grandchildren, Mason, Jourdyn and Joseph.

Services will be held September 7, 2013 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church beginning at 10:30 a.m.
