The Fallon’s girls soccer team is rolling.

Next up is a match at 5 p.m. today at cross-valley rival Fernley.

The Lady Wave, though, swept a weekend double-header against rival Elko and Spring Creek and sits atop the Northern Division I-A standings.

On Saturday, Fallon pitched a shutout against their longtime nemesis, Elko, 2-0, in a Northern Division I-A tilt.

Monica Mills and Maddie Alegre had a big weekend as the two senior stars netted two goals apiece. The duo each notched a goal in the first half against the Indians, while senior goalkeeper Erin Nelson and the defense recorded a shutout. Nelson tallied 13 saves.

On Friday, Spring Creek had a strong start against Fallon, but the Lady Spartans were unable to put the Lady Wave (5-0-1 overall, 2-0-0 league) away.

After a scoreless 38 minutes to start the game, a lightning delay sent the teams to take shelter for 30 minutes. The Lady Spartans came out of the delay firing and Shawntel Andersen put them up 1-0 before halftime.

Heather Craig added another goal within the first five minutes of the second half, giving the Lady Spartans a two-goal cushion to protect. That lead changed the team’s mindset for the worse, according to Spring Creek coach Kami Hernandez.

“We stopped playing to win and we played not to lose,” she said.

Fallon, though, rallied for three unanswered goals to notch its second consecutive win.

Seniors Sam Burton, Alegre and Mills netted the goals for the Lady Wave. Alegre and Mills each also tallied an assist, while goalkeeper Erin Nelson recorded nine saves.

Fallon hosted Lowry on Tuesday but results were not available at press time.

Blake Samanas of the Elko Daily Free Press contributed to this report.
