Dayton Valley Days set for weekend

The 25th annual Dayton Valley Days celebration is set for this weekend in Old Town Dayton.

The Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast starts both days. The Saturday parade features floats, antique tractors, rescue and fire equipment, classic cars, trucks, motorcycles and marching groups.

Many grand marshals representing the local Boys & Girls Club of Dayton will lead the parade.

The annual International Chili Society cook-off, which runs both days. Teams will be competing in the ICS-sanctioned red and green chili and salsa cook-off competition. The chili-tasting raises funds for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley-Dayton Units and the Lyon County Shop-with-a-Sheriff program.

The event will be sprinkled with a glimpse of local history thanks to living-history groups, including the Battle Born Civil War Reenactors and the Historical Society of Dayton Valley. On Sunday at noon is the pet parade.

Railroad Days will be on the corner of Old Town Dayton at U.S. Highway 50 and Main Street, where the Historical Society of Dayton Valley will showcase the Carson and Colorado railroad depot that served Dayton for decades.
