MINDEN — Quarterback Hunter Fralick’s 5-yard touchdown run followed by a 2-point conversion with 31 seconds remaining on Friday night lifted Spanish Springs to a come-from-behind, homecoming-spoiling 15-14 victory against Douglas.

Douglas (1-4) scored on its opening possessions of the first and third quarters to take a 14-0 lead, however, the Tigers were unable to hold on at the end.

Spanish Springs (2-2) drove 92 yards on 16 plays — taking nearly 6 minutes off the clock — en route to its winning points. The key play came on fourth-and-22 from the Cougars’ 31 when Fralick scrambled for 23 yards to keep the drive alive.

Fralick scrambled 5 yards on second-and-goal for the touchdown. Douglas was called for defensive holding in the end zone on the play, which gave Spanish Springs an opportunity to go for the win. Fralick took the snap and followed the right side of his line into the end zone for the conversion.

Douglas took an early 7-0 lead when Nick Abreu caught a 25-yard touchdown from Wes Hundley to cap an eight-play, 91-yard drive in the first quarter. Abreu ignited the drive with a 37-yard run on the Tigers’ first play from scrimmage.

Abreu rushed for 217 yards on 24 carries for the night. He had 118 yards in the first half and then scored on a 52-yard dash up the middle on the third play of the third quarter.
