Delgado shines at Stanford meet for CHS

STANFORD — Eveline Delgado placed 11th out of 209 runners to lead Carson High’s girls cross-country team at the Stanford Invitational held at the Stanford golf course.

Delgado was timed in 19:17, while teammate Alex Drozdoff was 22nd at 19:33, Cindy Juchtzer was 43rd in 20:17, Shelby Brown was 92nd with a 21:09 and Athena Favero was 139th at 22:05. Allison Greene had a non-scoring 22:36 for 161st place and Jia Fortunato was 180th at 23:09.

Tony Cacioppo was 68th out of 247 in the boys race. He covered the course in 17:30. Daniel Jauregui was 78th in 17:36 and Tylar Chester was 144th in 18:16. Wyatt Cartier was the fourth CHS finisher, clocking a 18:18 for 149th place and Tony Xie was 168th in 18:26. Ian VanRensselaer was 173rd at 18:34 and Michael Leiken was 210th in 19:20.

Carson boys rebound from loss

RENO — Oscar Ventura scored with five minutes left to snap a 1-all tie and give Carson a 2-1 win over North Valleys Saturday afternoon in a Division 1 crossover match.

Carson improved to 5-2 in league play, and will host rival Douglas Wednesday at 7 p.m.

“After the Wooster loss, the kids were determined to rebound from that game,” coach Mehdi Samii said. “We played an excellent possession and pressure game. I can’t single anybody out because all the kids played with great heart. This was a thrilling and well-deserved win.”

North Valleys took a 1-0 lead in the closing minutes of the first, but Carson managed to tie the game in the 58th minute when Cristian Hernandez was puled down in the penalty box and converted the kick. The score remained tied until around the 75th minute when Ventura, after a scramble in front of the net on a free kick, beat the NV keeper for the game-winning score.

JV: Carson topped North Valleys 4-1 on goals by Peter Garrett, Jaime Saldana, Robert Gonzalez-Altamirano and Eric Avila.

Carson girls blank Panthers

RENO — The defending regional champs remained undefeated with an easy 5-0 win over North Valleys Friday night.

Carson is now 7-0 heading into Tuesday’s home showdown against Douglas at 7 p.m.

“We played great the first 60 minutes,” coach Greg Lehman said. “We didn’t play real well the last 20 minutes. We let up a little bit. The first 60 minutes we defended well and counter-attacked well.

“Douglas has a bunch of returning players, and I know they’re athletic and physical, and I’m expecting all of that out of them. I know the girls are excited about this game.”

Kiahna Pimental scored twice, while Josilyn Daggs, Lindy Lehman and Valerie Sue Meyer added one each. It was Pimental’s first goal since the opener against Hug, and the first goals for both Meyer and Lehman. Daggs has a team-leading nine scores.

JV: Carson, behind Lauren Hudak’s four goals, pounded North Valleys 10-0 on Friday. Selin Lizarraaga added two scores, while Miriam Torres, Galilea Cid, Mallory Oto and Nahim Gutierrez-Flores added one each.

Douglas swept by Manogue

RENO — Douglas continued to struggle, losing to Bishop Manogue, 18-25, 13-25 and 6-25, Thursday night.

Ariah Barth had nine kills and five digs, while setter Shelby Van Winkle had 10 assists and three kills. Bailey Gansberg contributed five digs.

Yerington rolls in 4

YERINGTON — Yerington, behind the play of Kassidy Lommori, knocked off Incline 25-14, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-15 Saturday in a Division III match.

Lommori, a sophomore, had 13 kills, eight digs, three blocks and seven aces.

Ashley Rife had 27 assists and 16 digs, while Brooke Menesini added three kills, 15 digs, two blocks and three aces. Chloe Dane added eight kills, 11 digs and three blocks.

Yerington is 5-0 in league and 13-9 overall.

Muckers sweep Hawthorne

Virginia City knocked off Hawthorne 25-13, 25-13 and 25-13 in a Division IV match on Saturday.

Niki D’Agostino had 15 kills and 12 digs, while Nicole Huffman added 17 assists. Shannon parson contributed six kills and Eden Gomez was credited with nine digs.

VC is now 5-0 in league and 12-2 overall.

The JV squad lost in three games and is now 4-1 in league.
