March 9, 1921 - March 10, 2014

Margaret Louise Warren, a 24-year resident of Nevada, passed away peacefully in Carson City on March 10, 2014, just one day after her 93rd birthday. Margaret was born in Springerville, Arizona, on March 9, 1921, the youngest of four children born to her parents. Her father, Robert Selkirk, who originally hailed from Ontario, Canada, was a long-time manager with the United States Forest Service. Her mother, Caroline Matilda Duke Selkirk, was a Texan who worked as a school teacher before marrying and starting a family. The Selkirk clan moved several times over the years, including places in Arizona and San Luis Obispo County, California. Margaret attended Junior College in San Luis Obispo and later graduated from Fresno State College with a degree in education. She married and had two children before starting her work as an elementary school teacher. Following her retirement from teaching after 25 years with the Fresno County School District, Margaret relocated to Pine Grove, California, where she fulfilled a lifetime dream of owning and operating a women’s clothing store. She ran Gimma’s Garments in Pine Grove for ten years, until selling her successful business and moving to Carson City to be near her daughter Joy Erickson and family. Margaret and husband John Warren spent their winters in their vacation home in Yuma, Arizona. Following his passing, she lived for several years in Las Vegas before returning to Carson City in May 2012 to live with Joy and Bob Erickson. Margaret lived a full and active life, which included several ocean cruises and a photo safari in Africa. She was preceded in death by her sister and two brothers, great-granddaughter Eliya Margaret Oppio Erickson, and husbands Aldo Pardini of Fresno, John Warren of Carson City, and her last partner, Eugene Williams of Las Vegas. She is survived by her daughter Joy Erickson (Bob) of Carson City, and son John Long (Frieda) of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She also is survived by grandchildren Jill Delaney (Lorne) of Las Vegas and Jeff Erickson (Amy) of Reno, who affectionately named Margaret their “Gimma.” Also surviving are grandchildren Evan Long and Robin Long of Vancouver, Canada, and great-grandchildren Isabella and Camille Delaney of Las Vegas, and Asa and Vivi Oppio Erickson of Reno. In fulfillment of her wishes, a private memorial service will be held by the Pacific Ocean near her childhood home in Los Osos, California.
