If you’ve dealt with an editor at the Nevada Appeal in the past six years, there’s a good chance his name is Adam Trumble. Adam edited this column, but by the time you read it, he’ll be our former news editor.

Adam has worked tirelessly to make the Appeal better, and he has earned a well-deserved promotion. As of Monday, Adam will be the top editor of the Tahoe Daily Tribune at South Lake Tahoe, one of the Appeal’s many sister publications.

Adam and I have shared the reins of the Appeal in many ways during my 14 months on the job. He has been in Nevada longer than I have, and he knows which events are coming, as well as which questions to ask of public officials and how decisions they make will affect Northern Nevadans. When our news staff meets each Wednesday afternoon to talk about the stories we’ll be telling, Adam always has a pile of printed-out emails covered in his scribbles and advises our reporters about what’s coming on their beats. I’ve worked at newspapers in seven states, and I’ve never encountered a more organized editor.

Adam’s going to flourish in his new role, and I’m both proud of him and grateful that his departure at least comes 14 months into my time in Nevada, rather than four months. I’ve learned a great deal from him during my first one-year cycle in Nevada, and members of our staff have learned from him during longer periods.

We’re looking for a new assistant editor at the Appeal. We have high expectations of that person based on the path Adam blazed, so we recognize that he/she has big shoes to fill. I’m focused on finding someone who has vision, dedication and a passion for what we do here.

Adam has all that, and I’m glad to get the chance to thank him in print for his contributions to the Appeal. I plan to continue to bounce ideas off of him and encourage him to do the same with me, and I hope he writes his own weekly column up at the lake. He’s a sharp guy who has plenty to say, and I’m looking forward to hearing him say it.

If you’d like to send Adam a congratulatory note, he’s now reachable at atrumble@tahoedailytribune.com.
