The motorist involved in the hit-and-run crash on Interstate 80 in Reno on Wednesday that injured a Reno police officer was arrested on Friday by the Nevada Highway Patrol.
At approximately 2 p.m., Officer Guy Cooper, a 17-year-veteran of the Reno Police Department, was riding his agency-issued BMW motorcycle eastbound on I-80 near the Virginia Street interchange and had slowed for congested traffic. Twent-one-year-old Nathaniel D. Wall of Reno failed to reduce the speed of his 1996 Dodge pickup he was driving and struck the rear of the motorcycle. Cooper sustained moderate injuries in the event while Wall fled the scene and the damaged pickup was found abandoned in Sparks a short time later.
Law enforcement personnel from the Nevada Highway Patrol, Sparks Police Department, Nevada Division of Parole and Probation, and the FBI collaborated and located Hall at a motel in Reno. He was placed under arrest on suspicion of several offenses, including leaving the scene of an injury accident — a felony. He’s is in custody at the Washoe County Detention Facility with a total bail amount of $24,025.
After the crash, Officer Cooper was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries. He was released from the hospital on Frida evening and was currently recovering at home. No other vehicles were involved in the event.
