General Manager/Editor Steve Ranson of the Lahontan Valley News has been named to the board of directors for the International Society of Weekly Newspapers, an organization that represents the interests of hundreds of weekly newspapers and their editors in the United States, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

Ranson is also a member of the Nevada Press Association’s board of directors, along with Record-Courier Editor Kurt Hildebrand

“We are delighted to have Steve join the ISWNE board of directors,” said Chad Stebbins, executive director. “He brings the perspective of a hard-hitting journalist who has a passion for community journalism and serving his local community. His expertise will be crucial as ISWNE continues to look for ways to assist weekly and semi-weekly newspapers throughout the United States, Canada and elsewhere in the world.”

Ranson, who has been editor of the LVN since 2008, has been a member of the organization for five years and was recognized twice — 2009 and 2013 — for his editorial writing.

The Nevada Press Association named Ranson Journalist of the Year in 2012.

Stebbins said the ISWNE board sets policy for the organization, provides critical advice to the president and the executive director and looks for ways to encourage ISWNE members to become strong, independent editorial voices in their communities. ISWNE will be celebrating its 60th anniversary next year.
