Wave’s football opener online

The Fallon football teams first game of the season will reach a national audience.

In it’s first trip to the Honor Bowl, the Wave’s game against Cardinal-Newman (Calif.) will be streamed online through the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).

The NFHS Network, the nation’s leading destination for live coverage of high school sports and events, announced a partnership with the Honor Group Inc., according to a press release on Tuesday.

The Honor Group is a community organization dedicated to educating, empowering and equipping military veterans for success.

“Bringing together students and the community through sport to raise awareness of the sacrifice of our veterans is core to The Honor Group, and we are grateful to the NFHS Network for assisting in helping America’s high school sports enthusiasts to watch these games,” said Mark Soto, executive director and founder of The Honor Group.

The NFHS will live stream each game for the Northern California (NorCal) segment of the fifth annual Honor Bowl, a high school football showcase benefiting military veterans. This year’s Honor Bowl will take place in two locations in California on consecutive weekends.

The Northern California Honor Bowl runs Aug. 29-30. The Southern California segment will take place Sept. 5-6 at Oceanside High School in Oceanside.

The Southern California Honor Bowl games will be broadcast live by Time-Warner Cable Sportsnet throughout Southern California, Las Vegas and Hawaii.

The two-day Northern California Honor Bowl features five games and 10 high schools from three states.

Four Nevada schools will compete including Fallon, Carson, Damonte Ranch and Reed.

Fallon plays at 5 p.m. Aug. 30, while Damonte Ranch takes on Elk Grove in the first game of the weekend at 5 p.m. on Aug. 29. Reed battles Clovis North at 2 p.m. on Aug. 30, while Carson faces Clayton Valley at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally on iHeart Radio.

The games are broadcast live at www.nfhsnetwork.com. A day pass to watch the games will be $9.95, or you can watch all five NorCal games for $14.95.

The NFHS Network locks arms with Clear Channel Media and Entertainment that will be supporting The Honor Group’s fundraising efforts with a national and local radio broadcast. Clear Channel’s Sacramento affiliate news radio KFBK 1530AM sport anchors Bill Herenda and on-air personality Pat Walsh will host live remote broadcasts at 8 p.m. each day.

During both of these games the stations will encourage the viewers and listeners to support veterans by donating online at www.thehonorgroup.org.
