The ladies of the Presbyterian Church, co-operating with Ah For, the Pastor of the Church of the Good Shepherd, held a sociable, or mite meeting, at the chapel last evening. When we dropped in, we found the benches ranged round the outside of the room filled with ladies with here and there a male sinner of the hardened and unconverted sort. They had been entertained with some Chinese music, and it altogether was a credible and entertaining affair.

On Sunday, a young lad named Harris was out near the orphan’s home hunting pigeons when he placed the muzzle of his gun on his toe to rest it. It happened to be cocked at the time, which Harris overlooked at the time. The gun went off, carrying with it the boy’s toe and portion of the foot. The young son of Dr. Lee pulled off the boot and rendered assistance until help arrived. He is the son of Mr. Harris, the barber.

Yates, the plumber, has completed the erection of the cornice for the front of the Capitol building and this afternoon has a crew helping him put it in place. It promises to make a decided improvement in the appearance of the front of the building.

Congress had before it today a proposal to build 30 new airports in Nevada at a cost of $1,236,300 and improvements to 24 existing airfields.

A prop-driven Navy fighter-bomber crashed and exploded on the Nevada desert Monday after another Navy plane made a controlled crash landing. The pilot who crash-landed was not injured, the second was declared missing.
Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
