A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested on felony drug, firearm and stolen-credit-card counts during a traffic stop at Fairview Drive and U.S. Highway 50 East.

According to the arrest report:

An off-duty deputy called an on-duty deputy to report what appeared to be a drug deal involving people in two vehicles about 1 a.m. Saturday.

The on-duty deputy arrived just as one of the vehicles began to leave, then followed it before pulling the driver over.

He asked the driver, Casey Justin Cribbins, 25, of Carson City, if he had anything illegal in the vehicle. Cribbins gave the deputy a glass jar containing a small amount of marijuana. The deputy noticed a portable locking safe in the vehicle; Cribbins said he keeps legal papers in it.

The deputy handcuffed Cribbins, then learned that his passenger, a 28-year-old Sheridan, Wyo., woman, had two violation-of-a-suspended-sentence warrants out of Carson City. A drug-sniffing dog then indicated during an exterior search that there were illegal drugs in the vehicle.

The deputy opened the safe and found a small bag containing a white crystalline substance, a marijuana grinder and a marijuana pipe. He also found a loaded .357 revolver in the center console.

Cribbins was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of stolen credit cards, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Total bail was set at $29,100.

His passenger was arrested on the two warrants. Total bail was set at $6,000. She remained in custody Thursday afternoon; Cribbins had bonded out.
