Dec 8, 1932 - July 4, 2014

Evangeline Elisabeth Miller Tanner passed at her residence, beneath the blazing sky, on Independence Day, 2014. She was 81. Born in New Jersey on December 8, 1932, she was raised until the age of seven on a hundred-acre farm. She remembered fondly the 13-room stone house, which had stood since 1800. She then moved to Reno with her mother and grandmother to begin her journey as a Nevadan, which would last the rest of her life. She graduated from Reno High in 1951, married and raised three children. She adopted another late in life. She was a thespian from a young age, starring in “Tomorrow the World” at Reno Little theater at age 11 and her love of all aspects of theater continued late into her life including starring in “Painting Churches” and “Night Mother”, which toured throughout Northern Nevada in the early 1990s. She was a prolific and celebrated poet, published in many journals and two books of poetry. In 1982 she met and later married Larry Tanner. They spent many years in Virginia City and shared a unique and spiritual connection until she passed.

Angel is survived by her husband Larry, and their children Brent, Mike, Laurie, Brandy, Craig and Tamara, as well as thirteen grandchildren, extended family and her myriad of friends who loved her and continue to celebrate her. A private memorial will be held Saturday, July 19th at 10am in Virginia City. If you wish to send condolences, please send them to Larry Tanner, Care of Carson Plaza, 2120 East Long Street, Carson City, Nevada 89706.
