Colgans win Thunder Canyon tourney

Jim and Rowan Colgan shot 59 to win the Dalton Gang flight at the Thunder Canyon member-guest tournament last weekend.

The tournament was played in a modified stableford format.

Dick and Jeff Campagni were second in the Dalton Gang flight with a 44 while Larry Goodnight and Brian Dolton were third with a 41. Vern Hamilton and Leroy Bowser, and Mike McGee and Vince Anderson tied for fourth at 36. In the Clanton Gang flight, Bob Gates and Richard Torres won with a 56, two points ahead Greg Whitt and Dana Whaley. Mike Fraga and Aaron Wells were third with a 50 and Scott Keegan and Larry Dunn were fourth with a 49.

McGee and Vince Anderson won the Par-3 Challenge with 25. The Campagnis, Whaley and Whitt, and Don Burke and Wayne Hudson tied for second at 27.

Torres recorded his first-ever ace during a practice round leading up to the event.

Rask captures win

at Empire Ranch

Dahl Rask shot a net 63 to win Flight A during a recent stroke play event for the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club.

Jim Shabi was second with a 64. Fred Olesek won third via a tiebreaker with a 67. Bob Pitcock won Flight B with a 61. Dennis Justin, Nick Paul and Carl Slate all had 67s with Justin winning the tiebreaker. Wes Franklin won Flight C with a 64, taking a tiebreaker over Jack Medeiros. Ivan Lepier was third with a 66. Bob Hendry won Flight D with a 66, while Mart Martinez and Bob Pluth were at 68 and 69, respectively.

Serafine grabs win

at Carson Valley

Charlie Serafine shot a net 67 to edge Jack Sparman by a shot to win Flight A at Carson Valley Golf Club over the weekend. Augie Martinez and Bill Allen tied for third at 71.

Charles Poe and Joe Morrison tied for the Flight B title with a 65. John Pearson was second at 72 and Jack Zippwald was third with a 73.

Wolf Pack seeks national

anthem singers for hoops

The University of Nevada Athletics Department is seeking volunteers to sing the national anthem at Wolf Pack men’s and women’s basketball games during the 2014-15 season. Those interested in singing at a Pack basketball game this season are asked to try out on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at Lawlor Events Center between 4 and 7 p.m. For more information please call 775-682-6961.

Those attending the tryout are asked to park in the metered lot south of Lawlor. Please enter through the main entrance on the lower level located on the corner of 15th and Virginia Street.

Gustin Sports Productions and My21 are teaming up to present Friday Night Rivals starting Aug. 15.

Games will be broadcast each week live. The show runs from 7 to 10 p.m. every Friday.

Raiders booster club

holds membership drive

The Carson City Raiders Booster Club is holding its annual membership drive and picnic Aug. 16 at Dayton State Park starting at 11 a.m.

The picnic is free for members, and fans are invited to attend for $5 per person or $15 per family. Membership dues are $30 per person or $40 per family. The club will provide burgers, hot dogs and water, and attendees are asked to bring side dishes to share.
