A spokesman for the Nevada Department of Veterans Services says there is no truth the ROVER outreach program is being suspended.
Charles Pullen said there may have been a meeting cancellation or two because of scheduling issues but the program is still in business.
“We’re scheduled out all the way through October,” he said.
ROVER stands for Rural Outreach for Veterans Enrichment and Resources. The program provides services to veterans living in communities that don’t have a veterans services office. ROVER meetings provide service officers to help veterans with information and help in accessing their educational, health care and other benefits.
It’s funded through donations to the Veterans gift account and supported by the Nevada Veterans license plate program.
A schedule of ROVER meetings can be found on the department webpage at www.veterans.nv.gov.
To help fill the gap in Douglas County, Welcome All Veterans Everywhere along with an American Legion VA Benefits Specialist will help at the Douglas Senior Center on Thursday and Aug. 14.
One hour appointments will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Veterans are advised to bring their DD-214 discharge information. For information and appointments call Sheri Karosich at 775-783-6455.
