TOCCATA kicks off Summer MusicFest

TOCCATA ­— Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will kick off its ninth Summer MusicFest with TOCCATA-Summer Solstice Serenade June 19-24.

The program opens with Vivaldi’s “Concerto for Two Flutes in C Major, RV 533” with Josue Casillas and Carmella Cao as soloists, and continues with Casillas performing Vivaldi’s “Concerto for Piccolo No. 443.”

Organist David Brock will interpret Leo Sowerby’s “Classic Concerto for Organ and Strings” and will perform as continuo player for all other pieces. The concert concludes with J.S. Bach’s Cantata BWV 9 “Es ist das Heil,” featuring Anna Helwing and Jennie Tibben, sopranos, and Stuart Duke, baritone, with Mike O’Neill as concertmaster. Maestro James Rawie will conduct all performances.

Performances are set for 7 p.m. June 19 at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, 341 Village Blvd. in Incline Blvd.; 7 p.m. June 21 at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church, 3680 Highway 395 South in Carson City; 7 p.m. June 23 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1041 Lyons Ave. in South Lake Tahoe; and at 7 p.m. June 24 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 501 California Ave. in Reno.

General admission costs $25 for adults and $20 for seniors. Preferred seating costs $35 and $15 for youth and students. General seating for youth and students younger than 24 costs $5. Tickets are available at the door or online at www.toccatatahoe.com.

TOCCATA’s Summer MusicFest will continue with the celebration of its ninth anniversary July 6-13. Chaminade’s “Concertino for Flute and Orchestra” will be featured, as well as Mozart’s “Piano Concerto No. 21” performed by guest soloists Mizuki Otani. The celebration will finish with the finale of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony “Ode to Joy.”
