Gardnerville man goes to prison in dirtbike theft

A 21-year-old Gardnerville man was sentenced to prison on Tuesday after he violated the probation he received for stealing a dirtbike.

Monge admitted two probation violations, including failing to report which resulted in his removal from mental health court in Carson City.

Judge Tod Young told Taylor Monge that he didn’t have anything against him.

“I don’t have any enmity against you,” Young said. “I want you to succeed. Your sentence is not very long, you’ll get paroled very soon.”

Monge had 194 days counted as time served, so he won’t be in prison for very long on his 12-30 months sentence.

Monge’s attorney Jaime Henry said the probation officer in the case was very intimidating.

“I wasn’t feeling it,” Monge said. “So when I got out of the office, I just ran.”

Monge also gave police a different name in a traffic stop on May 21, which resulted in his arrest. He tested positive for marijuana and methamphetamine.

Defense attorney Jamie Henry said that mental health court would take him back.

“Taylor doesn’t respond well when he’s feeling intimidated,” she said. “He feels like he could succeed if he had someone someone who would work with him. He said it would be nice if he had a parole officer who understood him.”

Prosecutor Laurie Trotter pointed out that Monge has had a lot of opportunities, and has failed on probation.

Young told Monge he didn’t want him to give up on himself.

Monge and Brian Ray Hearold were arrested Feb. 20, 2013, after the owner of the dirt bikes spotted them loading his property into a truck.
