Each lodge in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks annually acknowledges an individual in the community who contributes his time and talent to serve his community.

The Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 honored Deputy State Forester Richard Harvey of the Nevada Division of Forestry for his contribution of time and talent to serve the community.

Harvey achieved the title of Type 1 Incident Commander, a leadership position during a Type 1 incident, which is usually a major disaster. He’s the only Type 1 Incident Commander in the state.

Harvey is a coach with Carson City’s Silver State Volleyball Club. He started his volunteer service with the club at its inception 15 years ago. Working with girls of all ages, he focuses on teamwork, staying off of drugs and setting and reaching goals.
