Angry youngster: A young boy climbed up on the rear of a truck and got caught by the seat of his trousers on the tail of a truck and hung there yelling like a Comanche. Citizens rushed up and took the boy down.

When he was placed on his feet, he began to bawl afresh. All the fuss was because a package of candy had been broken in his hands and scattered for 20 yards. When he picked up his candy, he was himself again.

Mel Woodgate filed for Board of Supervisors Ward 4 seat. Woodgate moved to Carson City in 1932 and has been “helping out the city” in a variety of ways, including his involvement with the Warren Engine Company volunteer fire department.

Sue Ballew is the daughter of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
