Blueberg pitches Nevada past Pacific, 8-4

STOCKTON, Calif. – The University of Nevada (5-7) baseball team defeated Pacific (7-7) Tuesday at Klein Family Field by a score of 8-4.

With the victory the Wolf Pack has won three of its last four games to improve to 5-7 on the season while the Tigers stand at 7-7.

Trailing 4-3 Nevada scored five runs in the top of the seventh to move in front by what would be the final score of 8-4. Freshman second baseman Justin Bridgman had the big hit with a two-out bases clearing double to put the Pack on top to stay. Designated hitter Trenton Brooks had an RBI single to tie the score at four and after the Bridgman double shortstop Kyle Hunt’s single scored the fifth run of the inning.

Nevada scored two runs in the top of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead but Pacific answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to go in front 4-3 where it remained until the five-run top of the seventh inning.

Junior Colby Blueberg (2-0) won his second game of the season tossing 3.2 shutout innings and allowed just one hit and struck out three. Jason Taasaas (0-2) lost for the second time giving up five runs on three hits and retired just two hitters.

Left fielder Kewby Meyer (2-for-4,RBI), Brooks (2-for-5,R,RBI) and Bridgman (2-for-4,R,4RBI) had two hits each for the Pack. Bridgman drove in a game-high four on the night.

Brett Sullivan (3-for-4,R) was one of three Tiger hitters to have multiple hits in the game finishing with a game-high three. Four different hitters had an RBI for Pacific.

Nevada returns to Mountain West action this weekend with a three-game series at San Diego State starting Friday night at 6 p.m.

Saturday is at 2 p.m. first pitch and Sunday’s game is a noon start. All three games will be on radio, Friday on 1450 AM and the final two games on 1060 AM. Free audio is also available via this link on web/mobile http://www.nevadawolfpack.com/audio
