Class of 1964

The Churchill County High School class of 1964 is seeking the addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of class members in order to invite them to the 50th reunion in August in Fallon.

Dinner and a no-host cocktail party are scheduled for Aug. 15. Pre-registration is Aug. 14.

Details about preregistration, tours of major new Churchill County businesses and other activities on Aug. 14-17 will be announced after the March 7 meeting of the reunion committee. Graduates will be encouraged to attend the all-class reunion events slated for Aug. 16-17 as part of the Mayor’s NV 150 Commission. These events, which include a gathering at Oats Park on Aug. 16, are part of the State of Nevada’s sesquicentennial celebration.

Class of 1984

High school equivalence classes

WNC Fallon will be offering free HSE classes for students interested in attaining their high school equivalence diploma. Registration for these classes will be held the first Monday and Tuesday of each month and is on going. You must attend both days of registration.

WNC Fallon will be offering free HSE classes for students interested in attaining their high school equivalence diploma. Students will need to register, complete testing, and then plan out their class schedule.

Classes will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays.


Volunteer with Highland activities

The activities department at Highland Village of Fallon is in search of volunteers.

Volunteers are needed to help out with reading books, listen to a life story, write a letter, arts & crafts, bingo, special events and the list goes on. LVCC rehearsals

Lahontan Valley Concert Choir began rehearsals on Feb. 18 at Epworth Methodist Church located at 280 E. Stillwater Ave. Sing songs of the past and present and be part of something special. No experience necessary just the desire to sing. Our spring concert is scheduled for May 8.


Emblem Club fundraiser

Come and enjoy a dinner of salad, corned beef, red potatoes, cabbage, carrots and dessert on March 8 at the Fallon Elks Lodge, 93 W. Center St.

Cost is $10. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m..

There will be a raffle with great prizes, and tickets are six for $5 or $1 each.

This is the Fallon Emblem Club’s annual scholarship fund raising event with net proceeds to benefit local scholarships.

Fernley Republican Women

The Fernley Republican Women (FRW) will hold their next meeting on March 18 at the Fernley High School Library, 1300 Highway 95A, at 6:30 p.m.

The public is encouraged to arrive a little early for a bite to eat and some social interaction before the meeting is gaveled to order.

Guest speaker, U. S. Sen. Dean Heller, will give a report on recent congressional activities and how they affect local interests. The FRW will also hold a debate among the Lyon County Sheriff’s Republican candidates. Participating in the debate will be Lt. Steve Adams (retired), Deputy Al McNeil and Undersheriff Albert Torres.


Spring Basket celebration

It’s time for the Spring Basket Auction sponsored by the Churchill Library Association.

Create a basket on the theme of your choice; gardening, your business, food, flowers, or whatever strikes your fancy. Deliver it to the Churchill County Library between March 10-April 7.

It will be displayed in the library with a card identifying you as the donor. All baskets will be sold in a silent auction beginning March 10.

Bidding will close at 3 p.m. on April 10.

Winners can pick up their Spring Baskets any time the library is open. All funds raised will benefit the Churchill County Library.

Teddy Bear activities

Join the library March 31-April 4 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. for these Teddy Bear related activities:

The Teddy Bear Tea Party will be held April 5 at 1 p.m. Bring your bear and join your friends for tea and a special treat.

Ask a lawyer

Attorneys and specialists will offer their services for free on March 25 from 12-3 p.m. at the County Commissioners Chambers, 155 N. Taylor St.

They will answer questions on family law and wills and probate. Walk-ins only, no appointments. Also mark your calendar for future “Ask A Lawyer” dates: May 13, July 22, Sept. 23 and Nov. 25. These sessions are being sponsored by the Nevada Legal Service and the Churchill Community Coalition.

Community Service Thrift Shop

The thrift store is located at 169 E. Center St. Hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.

We are a non-profit organization run by a group of dedicated community volunteers. We accept donations of clean, resalable dishes, clothing, toys, books, small appliances, and furniture. We do not have room for bicycles, beds, couches or large televisions. We receive donations at the back door from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays.

March 3-7; $1 Sale — shirts, blouses, & sweaters.

March 10-14; $1 Sale — pants, slacks, & jeans.

Thank you for your donations and patronage for the past 26 years.

The proceeds from our sales support families with emergency help, with a written referral from Churchill County Social Services, and also for the scholarship programs for graduating CCHS students and local Nursing Students.

The Blue Sky Thrift Store (formerly Fallon Humboldt Shredders) is located at 290 S. Maine St. Hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Bagged clothing sales, $4 per plastic shopping bag full of clothing available on Saturdays.

Drop-offs are made at the store location. Proceeds help provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities and families in need through community voucher programs.


Stuf’n Such Thrift Store

The Stuf ‘n Such Thrift Store, owned and operated by Banner Churchill Community Hospital Auxiliary, is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., 99 S. Nevada St., 775-423-6446. Donations are accepted Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

XL Hospice is providing a blood pressure clinic on the first Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m.-noon at the Senior Center, 310 Court St.

The Serendipity Bookstore at 507 S. Maine St., features used books for sale from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Proceeds benefit the Churchill County Library.

Hearts of Gold Quilters

The Hearts of Gold Quilters meets every Thursday 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Fallon Convention Center, 100 Campus Way. All quilters are welcome.

We are a group of 40 busy quilters who meet weekly to make donation quilts, as well as working on our own projects. An average of 80 quilts per year are donated to our community.

MOPS meeting

The Mothers of Preschoolers group meets 10 a.m.-noon the second and fourth Tuesday each month at Parkside Bible Fellowship.

Fallon Elks Lodge

ESL In-Home program

ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada is a nonprofit organization that provides English tutoring at no cost through the help of volunteer tutors.

Child support enforcement

Child support enforcement services are available through the Churchill County District Attorney’s office. The staff may be able to help establish parentage and help obtain a child support order to include medical support. Pick up an application at the Churchill County Child Support Office at 165 N. Ada St., or visit www.churchillcounty.org and follow the links to the District Attorney’s Child Support Division.
