Banner Health has announced that John D’Angelo has been named Chief Operating Officer of Banner Fort Collins Medical Center, currently under construction in Fort Collins, Colo.

D’Angelo, the CEO at Banner Churchill Community Hospital, expects to move to Colorado by mid-summer.

“John has done an excellent job of connecting with the Fallon community and engaging with physicians and hospital employees to enhance patient care,” said Banner Health Western Region President Jim Ferando. “He will apply that experience and his leadership skills to help us expand Banner Health services in Northern Colorado.”

D’Angelo has served in the top role of Banner Churchill Community Hospital since 2012. During his tenure, he oversaw the Customer Service Initiatives with significant improvement in all patient satisfaction scores, positive employee engagement scores, and consistent quality results.

He also put an employee recognition program in place and expanded the hospital’s community presence with the initiation of Ladies Night Out, and successfully recruited new physicians including general surgeons and a family practitioner.

In 2013 he lobbied the Nevada Legislature to allow for the use of telemedicine with health care providers from out of state. Because of the law change, Banner Churchill was able to implement Banner iCareTM for Intensive Care units which allows the hospital to connect through televideo to remote critical care experts in Banner iCareTM for a second set of eyes and ears caring for the hospital’s critical patients.

Also in 2012 and 2013, the hospital was recognized by Immunize Nevada for achieving the highest hospital employee flu immunization rates in the state. One hundred percent of hospital employees complied with the Banner Health policy on flu immunizations in the 2012-2013 flu season.

In February, the Fallon Chamber of Commerce recognized D’Angelo as the area’s Business Leader of the Year and presented the hospital with the community’s Beautification Award.

“I am excited about the opportunity to help build a new team in Fort Collins,” D’Angelo said. “I will miss my colleagues at Banner Churchill Community Hospital and residents in the Fallon community. The energy here is very positive and the team here is skilled, dedicated and committed to providing excellent customer service and the highest quality care. I plan to pursue the same level of excellence in my new role.”

He will be greeted by familiar faces in Colorado. He served as the associate administrator at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley for four years prior to moving to Fallon. In addition, he will be moving closer to children and grandchildren who live in Colorado.

While in Greeley, D’Angelo served a six-month assignment as interim CEO for Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland, Wyo. He also served as Chairman of Banner’s Associate Administrators Discipline Team in 2011. He has a bachelor’s of science degree in hospital administration from Philadelphia College of Textiles and Sciences and a master’s degree in psycho-educational processes from Temple University in Philadelphia. He is a fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives and a registered respiratory therapist.
