July 6, 1922 - May 9, 2014



James Andrew McMullen was born on July 6, 1922 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He attended Lawrence High School where until recently he held several track and field records. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy where he served proudly on a light cruiser in the Pacific and was a witness to the Japanese surrender on the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. He then joined the U.S. Army and was a medical laboratory technician for 4 years. After serving his country he went on to a successful career with McDonald Douglas/Boeing. Upon retirement, James moved with his beloved wife, Gladys, to Carson City and worked 20 years with FISH as Food Bank Manager, Impacting countless individual’s lives and improving our community. He was a published poet and author and submitted countless letters to the Editor of the Nevada Appeal. He saw Christ in all he encountered. James fulfilled his journey on May 9, 2014, making it safely home to his Savior and into the arms of the love of his life, Gladys. He is survived by his three children, James Jr. (Paulette), Charlene (Ted) Hoerth, Sandra (Walter) Daniels, seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. He will live on in the hearts of all those he touched with his words, loved forever and never forgotten. A rosary will be said on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 6:00 pm at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 3597 N. Sunridge Drive, Carson City 89705. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 15, 2014, also at Corpus Christi. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory may be made to St. Mary’s Hospice, 429 Elm St., Reno NV 89503. A celebration of life and readings of his poetry will be held at a later date.
