Sports programs at CHS aided by online access

The Carson City School District has started open enrollment for the 2014-15 school year starting June 2 and running through June 13.

Through the new online system, parents will be able to update their child’s information as well as enroll for all sports. You can accomplish this in six steps, all on line. Instructional materials will be sent home to students from grades eight through 11 the week of May 26. The mailer will come with instructions on how to navigate the new system.

Eagle Valley tracksters

fare well at Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE - Eagle Valley tracksters, led by their first-place seventh-grade boys, did well in a Tah-Neva Meet at South Lake Tahoe.

The seventh-grade boys field events leaders were Tanner Styes (first in long jump, 16-1; and first in high jump, 4-6), Diego Lopez (third in triple jump, 27-5; and fourth in long jump 13-5 1/2), Carl Cavner (third in shot put, 28-7) and Carter Leuthauser (fourth in discus, 65-7). Leading the runners were Gilbert Vasquez (first in 100, 13.7; and third in 200m hurdles, 34.98), Hunter Rauh (first in 1600, 6:00; and second in 800, 2:53), Brandon Steel (fourth in 400, 1:06) and Jacob Nichols (fourth in 200, 30:38). The seventh-grade girls were led by Ashley Britt (third in 80 hurdles, 16.09; and second in 400, 67.92), Kailee Luschar (first in long jump, 28-1 1/2;s and third in long jump (12-2 1/2), and Camyrn Quilling (second in long jump, 12-6).

The eighth-grade boys field events were led by Blaise Bonomo (first in discus, 92-8; and second in shot, 38-5) Jared Myrehn (fourth in high jump, 4-10), Brandon Wilson (fourth in triple jump, 29-2 3/4), Christian Martinez (third in long jump, 14-9), and Vince Hershman (third in triple jump, 29-3). Runners were led by Ethan Goode (first in 100, 12:25; and second in 200,26:14), Martinez (second in 400, 59.16; and fourth in 100, 12:83), Hershman (fourth in 80 hurdles,14:05) and Xavier Boling (third in 80 hurdles, 13:64). The girls were led by Camiell Simpson (third in triple jump, 23-8).

Next meet is the Tah-Neva Championships at Carson High School today at 1:30 p.m.

Dayton Valley Golf Club is offering early bird green fees Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.

beat pro, president

Members at Thunder Canyon held a beat the pro and president competition recently.

Seven groups — Theresa Beggs and (blind draw partner) shot 61, Kathy Cockerill and Leanne Crowell, Cheryl Lukens and Claudia Goodnight, and Barbee Waldren and Elaine Easterling all shot 64. Jane Beckett and Donna Schellin shot 65, Susan Hood and Joann Sheerin had a 66 and Bianca Daykin and Sandi Oglesby shot 67 — beat the pro/president score of 68.

Eight men’s groups — Al Frederick and Gary Sheerin (60), Mike Schellin and Riley Beckett (61), Bob Bittman and Matti Vazeen (61), Mike Fraga and Max Gundlach (62), Butch Cattanach and Carl Baker (64), Bruce Miller and Saul Singer (65), Larry Easterling and Bob Oglesby (65) and Bran Sear and Tom Hannan (67) — all beat the 4-under-par 68.

Thomas group wins

Empire senior scramble

Terry Thomas, Dave Ziegler and Bob Warzynski combined for a 47 to win Flight A at the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club scramble held at Sunridge on May 14.

Gary Mick, Bill Milligan and Ivan Lepire were a stroke back, and Ken Stone, Mike Rogers, Dino DiClanno and Roger Maxwell were third with a 49.

John Masiello, Nick Paul, Jim Green and John Lewis won Flight B with a 46. Paul Lockwood, Tom Harlow, Art Skipworth and Ray Huntley took second on a tie-breaker with a 48. Phil Polaske, Nils Sharpe, Rudy Hammond and Tom Zogorski were third with a 48.

CVGC Couples Night

starts tonight

Carson Valley Golf Club is hosting a weekly Couples Night starting tonight at 5:30.

Included are nine holes of golf, cart, dinner and a $5 prize fund. The cost is $30 per player. For more information, call 265-3181.

Social golf night

set for women

Every Friday night through Oct. 3 local women can join Silver Oak’s assistant golf pro, James Potter, and staff for an evening on the greens.

Optional instruction begins at 4:30 p.m. with a shotgun start at 5:30. Beginners learn at their own pace with tips and instructions from staff.

The $25 fee includes nine holes of golf, instruction/tips from golf pro, range balls, and complimentary glass of wine.
