Capital City Community Band will honor veterans and commemorate the anniversary of Pearl Harbor with a variety of patriotic music and marches at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center.
The free concert will be directed by Richard Doede, the band’s founder.
The program will include “The Homefront: Musical Memories from World War II,” a reflection of the United States during the second world war. The showcase will spotlight songs from the 1940s including “Thanks for the Memory,” “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree,” “I’ll Be Seeing You,” “It’s Been a Long, Long Time,” “Bell-Bottom Trousers,” “White Cliffs of Dover,” and “Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition.”
“Armed Forces — The Pride of America” will feature the official songs of all five branches of the armed forces.
Local musicians Sonja and Curtis Radig will perform “As Time Goes By” with the band. The Radigs have performed with Western Nevada Music Theater since the early 1990s.
The concert is sponsored by the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department.
Capital City Community Band, founded in 1978, is an all volunteer group of people who enjoy making music. Its members, ranging in ages from 14 to 85, are from Carson City, Lake Tahoe, Carson Valley, Dayton, and Reno. Some members have been or are professional musicians, but the majority learned to play in school and put the instrument away for a few years before deciding to return to performing.
