$1.25 million grant for jobs program for at-risk students

Gov. Brian Sandoval Friday announced USA Funds has awarded a $1.25 million grant to expand the Jobs for Nevada Graduates program.

He said the money will help JAGNV expand to 50 schools across the state.

“JAGNV provides new opportunities to some of our most at-risk students and helps them identify new goals and opportunities for success,” he said.

USA Funds CEO William Hansen said the JAG program has “a proven track record of increasing graduation rates and motivating students to create a pathway to success after graduation.”

JAG is a non-profit program designed to help young people — especially at-risk students — stay in school and move on to pursue higher education or employment. Sandoval included the program in his 2012 budget and it now serves 21 schools in eight counties. The USA Funds grant will more than double the number of schools in the program.
