Nevada’s Office of Traffic Safety has been awarded a $1.1 million grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The money will be used for a variety of safety programs including Impaired Driving Countermeasures, Motorcycle Safety and improvements to the state traffic safety information system.

The state’s Department of Public Safety and the Nevada Department of Transportation have a goal of cutting the annual traffic fatality count in half by 2030 and officials say the ultimate goal is zero fatalities on Nevada roads. To achieve those goals, officials say they are using not only enforcement but engineering, emergency medical and educational strategies.

Gov. Brian Sandoval said the funding provides resources to help reach those goals.
