Prep roundup: Carson’s Amin, Woodbury reach the second round

RENO — Preeta Amin and Anya Woodbury took different routes to the second round of the Northern Division I Regional Tennis Championships Wednesday afternoon.

Amin was a 6-4 and 6-2 winner over Wooster’s Nisha Van Bartheld, while Woodbury rallied from a one-set deficit to defeat Manogue’s Clare Hall 4-6, 6-1 and 6-0.

Amin, seeded fifth, faces Spanish Springs’ Jaye Thomas at noon at Caughlin Ranch. Woodbury, seeded 14th, faces Douglas star Madelyn Landerfelt, also at noon.

The only singles casualty was Shaylin Segura, who dropped a 7-6 and 7-6 decision to Damonte Ranch’s Amy Gao.

In doubles, Amanda Breen and Emma Breeding won 6-0 and 6-0 over their Hug opponents. Abbey Dudley and Nacy Henricksen lost 6-0 and 6-0 to the fifth-seeded team from Reno. Sahara Winder and Anna Glenn dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision.

Action for boys and girls kicks off at 9 a.m. today.

The finals are slated for Saturday, and the top three singles players and top three doubles teams qualify for state.

VOLLEYBALL

Yerington sweeps North Tahoe

Yerington (27-2, 8-0) rolled to the 25-15, 25-15, 25-9 win over the Lakers. Chloe Dane had 15 kills and six digs, Jordan Bobrick had seven digs, Kassidy Lommori had a double double with 12 kills, 11 digs, five blocks, three aces and one assist, Brianna Ramirez had two kills and 11 digs, Ashley Rife had two kills, 10 digs and 22 assists and Rachel Dane added four kills, two aces and seven assists for the Lions.

SOCCER

Fernley tops Dayton

Fernley built a 4-0 first-half lead and cruised to a 7-3 win over the Dust Devils.
