Preeta Amin of Carson High gained revenge for a tough loss during the regular season and as an end result, she’ll be playing for a berth in the State Championships.

Amin, seeded No. 5, upset No. 4 seeded Andrea Martinez-Perez of Reno High 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the Northern Regional Girls Tennis Championships in singles. It was a huge turnabout from earlier in the year when Amin lost to Perez 0-6.

Amin will played the No. 1 seeded player from Reno today in the semifinals. Even if she loses, Amin will have a chance to play for a state berth in the third place match. The top three advance to state.

“That was awesome,” Carson coach Diane Baker-Roberts said. “It was great for her and Carson.”

Carson’s other singles player Anja Woodbury lost to the No. 3 seed, Douglas High’s Madelyn Landerfelt in straight sets in the quarterfinals, although Roberts said Woodbury played well.

Carson’s doubles team, Amanda Been and Emma Breeding was also eliminated in a straight sets loss to a tough Galena team.
